Sclerotherapy
Spider veins can be successfully treated with injection solutions into veins in a treatment called sclerotherapy. Our medical staff use modern solutions called Sotradecol and Glycerin, often mixed and made into foam and then injected into the veins using a very tiny needle. This foam causes irritation and collapse of the vein which, over a period of weeks, turns into scar tissue and ultimately is reabsorbed, slowly fading away from view.
The number of treatment sessions is determined by the extent of vein disease. After the procedure, patients will wear an ace wrap for 24 hours, and then elastic stockings for 6 days to assist in the healing process and to decrease complications.
Our treatment of spider veins also includes the treatment of feeder veins in in order to reduce the chance for new spider veins in the future. Each session lasts less than 30 minutes.
Sclerotherapy is more effective and less expensive than external lasers for the treatment of spider veins.
