Fast, Painless Treatment for Vein Diseases
Millions of Americans suffer from varicose and spider veins. They are caused by an underlying vein disease known as venous insufficiency or reflux. This venous abnormality is progressive and leads to leg pain, swelling, bulging veins, and leg ulcers. These vein disorders are common causes of patient suffering and lost time from work.
Veins in our legs carry blood from our feet towards the heart. One-way valves located inside our veins only allow blood to flow up, out of the legs. When these valves fail for any reason, blood flows backwards and builds up in our leg veins. This blood reflux increases the pressure on the vein walls which causes veins to dilate and become varicose. These vein abnormalities lead to leg pain, leg swelling, ropy veins, skin changes, and non-healing ulcers as pressure is transferred down the legs and into all of the skin veins.
Many factors, such as heredity, pregnancy, obesity, trauma and an occupation that requires standing for long periods of time increase the risk of varicose vein formation.
Traditionally, the only way to treat venous reflux was to surgically remove the saphenous veins. As with any major surgical procedure, it was performed under general anesthesia and had a recovery time associated with a high level of pain. In addition, success rates were low and the veins often re-opened causing the initial symptoms to reoccur.
Recently, more advanced, non-invasive, and painless alternatives to vein stripping such as microphlebectomy, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, and laser technology have become the modern treatment of vein disease. These highly successful and cost-effective treatments are performed in our vein center under local anesthesia. Patients experience very little or no pain and are able to return to their normal activities very quickly. In fact, most people walk out of the office after their procedure and return to work the same day or the day after. In contrast to surgery, the CoolTouch laser treatment has success rates greater than 95%, and if the vein re-opens, which is uncommon, patients can be re-treated with the same quick and easy laser procedure.
These newer techniques treat the underlying cause of varicose veins so reliably that they have become the modern treatment of varicose veins. Call us today to for your free, no-obligation interview with Dr. Ramos: (636) 399-5590.
