Insurance and Payment Coverage for Laser Vein Procedures
1. All insurance companies are now covering the modern endovenous ablation methods to treat vein diseases.
2. Some insurance companies require pre-determination of coverage. We will gladly file all the necessary paperwork on your behalf for the pre-certification and pre-determination of medical necessity for your procedures. We will also file all your claims with the exact procedural and diagnostic codes to ensure you receive maximum reimbursement. Almost all insurance carriers will refuse reimbursement for the treatment of cosmetic spider veins, therefore, no paper work will be filed for this condition.
3. The fee for the initial consultation is usually covered by most insurance companies. This includes an evaluation of your leg veins, a thorough discussion of vein problems, and a hand-held Doppler examination. However, your phlebologist may deem it necessary to perform a Venous Duplex Ultrasound of your legs. This additional charge is reimbursable by your insurance company. This state-of-the-art ultrasound diagnostic test indicates if you have abnormal vein valves causing varicose veins, leg swelling, leg pain, or chronic leg ulcers. These evaluations are necessary to determine the proper treatment for each patient. It is usually not performed if you present with cosmetic spider veins only.
NOTE: All of our procedures are done in our vein center, an office-based ambulatory surgical setting. You will therefore have no surgical assistant fee, no anesthesiologist fee, and no hospitalization fee. Furthermore, since there is little or no convalescence, most patients will be able to go back to work the next day. Clearly, our procedures are very cost-efficient when compared with the additional fees and loss of wages associated with stripping (the old-fashioned way of treating varicose veins), that could reach $10-12,000. Many times, our total fees usually represent 20-30% co-insurance of this cost. In addition, your co-insurance payment will be 70-80% less.
